Freedom of Speech (after Rockwell) by Lionus

Freedom of Speech (after Rockwell) by Lionus (2006)

In the early days of World War II the tyrants who had ignited the flames of war were preaching the value of the group over that of the individual. In January 1941 the American president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, spoke of four very basic freedoms that create the value of the individual. The first of these freedoms was the Freedom of Speech.

The Amerian artist Norman Rockwell painted the original "Freedom of Speech" and it was published by the Saturday Evening Post on February 23rd, 1943. This is how I have reinterpreted that singular work through furry eyes.

Pencil to Photoshop. Next to my pic "Ecco Furioso" (in my FurArt gallery), "Freedom of Speech" contains the largest number of characters in any of my artworks to date.
Equally satisfying to me was the fact that there was a minor bidding battle over it when it sold at AnthroCon06'. :-)
