In short, /YES/! :) I'm a member of the Mystara Mailing List, own all Mystara products (save for some OD&D modules I'm still searching for), play in a few Mystara-based PBeM games, and in my spare time compiled a history of Mystara and the Savage Coast from all the various products. Mystara and Red Steel have a small but devoted following; if you'd like to listen to what their Internet contingent is up to, you can subscribe to the Mystara Mailing List at mystara-l@io.com. There have been discussions about everything Mystara-based, and the current major product is detailing a Mystaran Orient on the eastern coast of the continent of Skothar. There are also a number of WWW sites devoted to Mystara, including: The Official TSR FTP archives: ftp://ftp.mpgn.com/Gaming/ADND/Worlds/Mystara ftp://ftp.mpgn.com/Gaming/ADND/Worlds/SavageCoast Unofficial Mystara Fan Pages: http://www.io.com/~oryon/mysthome.htm http://moray.ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au/~knight/mystara/index.html http://www.miniworld.com/adnd/mystarra/index.shtml http://www.angelfire.com/pages1/estlor/ http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/5304/ http://www.angelfire.com/pages0/redwolf/index.html I'll stop here before I overfill your mailbox; however, I hope to see you on the Mystaran Mailing list in the near future. :) -- Daniel Boese dboese@freenet.npiec.on.ca Official Keeper of the Unofficial Mystara Timeline Date: Sun, 15 Sep 1996 18:24:06 -0400 From: TSRBruce@aol.com To: dboese@freenet.npiec.on.ca Subject: Re: Mystara & Red Steel Hi Daniel, That was my first "journey" through something other than AOL. And I was a bit lost I must admit, so I asked that question to see what would happen. I'm just trying to find my way around the internet, WWW, et al. looking for activity on Mystara and Red Steel (I'm still pretty much lost). Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks for all the info about the sides. I'm not sure how to get from point A to point B yet, but I'll figure it out someday! :) Bruce Heard Date: Sun, 15 Sep 1996 19:29:19 -0400 (EST) From: Daniel Boese To: "Bruce A. Most Mystara-based activity is on one of 3 places; 1) The newsgroup rec.games.frp.dnd, which is mostly "What's Mystara?" "Is Mystara stuff still being published?" and so on. 2) The official TSR FTP site, where they've recently placed electronic versions of GAZ13: The Shadow Elves, and the Red Steel Campaign Setting. 3) The Mystara Mailing List, where internet-connected Mystara fen talk about anything Mystara-related. > Sorry for the inconvenience. For the man who wrote the Princess Ark and had his finger in almost every Mystara/Known World/Hollow World/Red Steel product I car to name, it's no trouble at all. :) > Thanks for all the info about the sides. I'm not sure how to get from > point A to point B yet, but I'll figure it out someday! :) Everybody has to start at some point; I can only wish that you'd been online during the days that you were writing Known World material. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me, if you want; it's the least I can do. By the way; before any other Mystara fen ask you, there's something that I'd /really/ like to know; is there /any/ Mystara-related material, written down or not, that hasn't seen print at some point? Notes for a Hule product, ideas for the Mystaran Crystal Sphere (if it has one), concepts for the future - or past - of Mystara, statistics for nearby planes or worlds, more tie-ins for Averoigne and Clark Ashton Smith's works, or anything else at all? With TSR having decided to make a super-detailed world an introductory world, and being disappointed that it didn't work, and shutting off the Mystara product valve, everybody here's a little desperate for any new 'official' Mystara products. :) -- Daniel Boese dboese@freenet.npiec.on.ca Date: Mon, 16 Sep 1996 14:08:54 -0400 From: TSRBruce@aol.com To: dboese@freenet.npiec.on.ca Subject: Re: Mystara & Red Steel In a message dated 96-09-15 20:11:53 EDT, you write: > With TSR having decided to make a super-detailed world an introductory >world, and being disappointed that it didn't work, and shutting off the >Mystara product valve, everybody here's a little desperate for any new >'official' Mystara products. Yeah, I know the feeling! Since we stopped producing new work for Mystara there hasn't been anything else/new to upload, other than Savage Coast material. I'm trying to get back into the habit of writing articles for the magazine, but they have a new editor whom I've never worked with. Don't know yet if that chemistry will work out at all. I have one Mystara-related article submitted, but it'll be several days before I get an answer. If that fails, that stuff will be uploaded. :) Bruce Heard Date: Mon, 16 Sep 1996 15:29:08 -0400 (EST) From: Daniel Boese To: TSRBruce@aol.com Subject: Re: Mystara & Red Steel > >everybody here's a little desperate for any new 'official' Mystara > >products. > Yeah, I know the feeling! I considered sending the timeline of Mystaran history I compiled to Dragon a few months ago, but couldn't think of how to make it very interesting without a full product and graphics team (actually, that might be an idea; a single product that brings all the varied threads of Mystaran history into a single reference - do you think you can convince the "bigwigs"? :) ); it's basically a list of dates and events from the Gazetteers and other products. (Which reminds me; would you like a copy of my typo-ridden, amateur, probably-copyright-violating efforts? It's ~2500 lines, 140K.) -- Daniel Boese dboese@freenet.npiec.on.ca Date: Mon, 16 Sep 1996 16:12:23 -0400 From: TSRBruce@aol.com To: dboese@freenet.npiec.on.ca Subject: Re: Mystara & Red Steel In a message dated 96-09-16 15:32:11 EDT, you write: > Do you object if I forward this news to the mailing list, >or would you prefer to keep it to yourself for now? Hi Dan! Why don't you wait a bit. I'll come up with an info release later on. <> Actually, a similar piece of work was uploaded on AOL by some of the local fans. I wonder if I can have the file forwarded to the ftp area. It's not official of course. You might want to consult it and see if you find discrepancies or omissions (merge the two?). I'll check with Sean. I wonder if I can have the file forwarded to the ftp area. I would greatly appreciate it if you could; most Internet users are unable to access AOL, and it's a royal pain to be told something like "Oh, that file's online - you only have to subscribe to an expensive, North American-only service to access it." (Please pardon my antipathy for the company that created the oxymoronic "America On-Line Canada".) I'm certain that if Sean asked, he'd get an overwhelming response to move all of TSR's files to MPGN. > It's not official of course. You might want to consult it and see if you > find discrepancies or omissions (merge the two?). Certainly; I've kept my version as 'canon' as I can, not counting the discrepencies between various products (such as the origin of the Shadow Elves given in the Glantri Gazetteer, Shadow Elves Gazetteer, and the Hollow World boxed set). As long as it's accurate, I'm perfectly willing to merge my version with the local fans'. :) -- Daniel Boese dboese@freenet.npiec.on.ca who seems to be writing more than absolutely necessary, and hopes he's not wasting your time. Gotta admit though, AOL feels really "comfy" and polished as an on-line service. So far, its features have been fairly enjoyable. I thought it was available overseas (?) Hmm. Oh well.
