There are 50 flags around the base of the Washington Monument, each symbolizing one of the 50 states of the U.S. The monument is about 555 feet high and was completed in 1884.





The Thomas Jefferson Memorial is located along the Tidal Basin. The statue of President Jefferson stands 19 feet tall and weighs five tons. The memorial was completed in 1943.





The Korean War Veterans Memorial was dedicated on July 27, 1995, the 42nd anniversary of the armistice that ended the war. The memorial includes 19 individual stainless steel statues of American soldiers.

The Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. is the 6th largest in the world. The English Gothic cathedral is 514 feet long and contains 200 beautiful stain glass windows, including one commemorating the Apollo XI mission.





The Lincoln Memorial was completed in 1922. The statue of the sitting Abraham Lincoln measures 19 feet in height.





Italian-born Constantino Brumidi painted The Apotheosis of George Washington in true fresco on the canopy inside the dome.





During the War of 1812, British troops set fire to the Capitol. Only a sudden rainstorm saved it from complete destruction.
