(Based on "new" Normal Cruise -- Warp 5 Warp Scale) Ordnance: Disruptor Mounts -- 8 Photon Torpedo Tubes -- 2 (fore and aft) Defense: Deflector Plating Cloaking Device (available in all flight modes) This battlecruiser is apparently a refit of the older D-7 type (one source calls it a "Klolode-class") battlecruiser. The Klingon Empire may have refitted their older vessels to the K'T'Inga design in response to Starfleet's starship refit program of the 2270s and early 2280s when vessels such as the Constitution-class (and perhaps other classes) went under radical design reconstruction and systems upgrade. Or, perhaps, Starfleet underwent the reconstruction program in response to the Klingons. Who knows for sure. In any case, the new battlcruisers had better firepower and shielding than their earlier counterparts, matching Starfleet's new firepower and shielding in the form of the uprated Constitution-class. The K'T'Inga-class was still in use in the Klingon Empire by the late 24th century, although they are apparently not as popular as the new Vor'Cha-class Attack Cruisers and various Bird-of-Prey-type vessels. The first Oberth-class starship (the USS Oberth probably) was probably launched in the early or late 2270s along with other vessels like the Miranda-class, Soyuz-class, and uprated Constitution-class that reflected Starfleet's "new look" in technology and starship design. Starfleet apparently found these ships to be so useful and efficient that they stayed with the design by building new ones and refitting old ones. In TNG as well as TMS, the Oberth-class fills the roll of a support vessel, serving as a scientific research vessel, scout, and transport. Over the years, some older Oberth-class vessels may have been sold as surplus to civilian organizations -- the "SS" Vico (NAR-18834) may have been one -- such as the Daystrom Insitute or Vulcan Science Academy. The Oberth-class vessels employ a unique two-tier design with the primary hull containing command, operations, crew support systems, impulse engines, and side-mounted warp nacelles. The underslung secondary hull contains main engineering, anti-matter/matter containment systems, navigational deflector, main sensors, and cargo holds. The support pylons contain the energy conduits to the warp engines from the warp core in addition to personnel turbolifts and access ladderways. Also, these were the vessels the Klingons traded to the Romulans for cloaking technology (although now the Romulans seemed to have scrapped their Klingon vessels in favor of the powerful "Warbirds"). It could be considered analogous to the K'Vort-class battlecruisers seen in TNG. This is a fan creation, by the way, never seen on any of the Star Trek series. There have been references to larger, more powerful versions in TNG. There was a distinction made between the B'rel-class and K'Vort-class Battlecruiser in "Yesterday's Enterprise" in the 3rd Season of TNG. Also, the Star Trek Encyclopedea notes the difference. Arsonal Inventory: 12 hand disrputors, 4 disrputor rifles, 1 grenade launcher, 48 grenades, 2 rocket launchers, 6 agonizors (remember those?), 300 power packs, 1 antimatter fusion warhead, 1 remote trigger for warhead Crew Breakdown: Officers -- Commander, Interrogation Specialist, Ordnance Officer, Executive Officer Crew -- Helmsman, Science Officer, Navigator, Chief Engineer, Engineer's Mate, Weapon's Control, Jr. Weapons Officer, Transporter Specialist Source: Klingon Scout Vessel Blueprints by Lawrence Miller Designs The Star Trek Encyclopedea by Mike and Denise Okuda and Debbie Mirek Compiled by H. Keith Hamilton Louisiana Tech University ======================================================================== Here is a brief summary of all the Imperial Klingon Starships that I know of from the show and fan sources... Vor'Cha-class Attack Cruiser -- The Galaxy-class of the Klingon Imperial Fleet. Used as flagships by high government officials and military leaders. Gowron uses one as his flagship. Their mission profile is probably similar to the Enterprise-D's (with more emphasis on military operations). D-7-class Battlecruiser -- This is the old, but still loved, battlecruiser design that gave Kirk and Co. trouble in the original series. Also, they were used by the Romulans on occaision when their treaty with the Klingons still existed. K'T'Inga-class Battlecruiser -- Gorkon's flagship from STVI and the Amar from STI:TMP. This is an uprated D-7 with greater speed, firepower, and defensive capabilities. Seen in the movie era and a couple of TNG episodes. B'rel-class Scout Vessel -- The dozen Klingon-crewed vessel from STIII to (Bird-of-Prey) STVI. Also seen in TNG. K'Vort-class Battlecruiser -- Definately a larger version of the much smaller B'rel-class Scout Vessel. Named in "Yesterday's Enterprise" and seen here and there in scale with the Vor'Cha-class vessel or Enterprise. K'Teremny-class Destroyer -- A truely awsome looking vessel that is fan created and seen only in "Federation Reference Series" and "Starship Design" by the Star Fleet Printing Office (yes, that's the name of the company). This movie era ship is sleeker, more powerful, more manueverable, and faster that the K'T'Inga-class. ------- AS OF 9/11/94 ------- Past starship specs I have posted are... Excelsior-class Federation Starship Constellation-class Federation Starship I plan to repost the Constellation soon. Future starship specifications postings include... Miranda-class Federation Starship Romulan Bird-of-Prey (from TOS) Ambassador-class Federation Starship (maybe) And others as they become available. Everyone should remember that I get most of my info from non-canon sources (sadly, they are the most comprehensive). However, I compare this info with what canon material I have to make these specs I post as accurate as possible and true to the shows and movies. If anyone out there has better info or ideas about these ship specs I post, please E-Mail me. I would love to hear your suggestions (hey, I like getting mail). I need all the info I can get. You know, this would be a lot easier if Okuda and Steinbeck got together and made us worthy fans a complete book of all the ships ever seen or mentioned in the show and movies. And I'm not talking about just names as seen in the Star Trek Encyclopedea. Anyone else agree? By the way, if anyone is interested, I can give out the address of mail order companies that have some of these books I get my info from (less expensive that going to a convention). Just E-Mail me at ST21822@vm.cc.latech.edu or hkh@engr.LaTech.edu for a request. Live Long and All That Crap... H. The USS Yamato (NCC-71807) and another (?) have been destroyed in the line of duty (The Yamato in the TNG episode "Contagion" and possibly another at Wolf 359 as Admiral Hanson's flagship). Most recently, the USS Odessey was destroyed in battle with the forces of the Dominion. There are 6 segmented spaceframes for Galaxy-class vessels spread throughout the Federation (for security purposes) that can be assembled and completed upon commissioning by Starfleet Command. After losing three ships in seven years, and with the threat of the Dominion, I'm sure Starfleet is probably building more now.
