I will attempt to revise this later. For now, just think of the deck directory as the one that applied to the uprated NCC-1701. After all, my deck directory was based on the one listed in Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise, which dealt with the uprated NCC-1701. Enjoy. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CONSTITUTION-CLASS FEDERATION HEAVY CRUISER These starships were to become the new workhorses of the Starfleet (replacing the aging Mann-class vessels), capable of the widest possible range of scientific and Federation policy enforcement missions while giving its crew the largest, most aestheticly pleasing surroundings in which to work. This line of starships had the most efficient warp dynamics of any spacecraft built up to that time. This, in addition to the faster and more efficient fourth-generation warp drive propulsion system, allowed speeds in excess of Warp Factor 6 (old scale). Also, the Constitution-class hull design allowed for improved construction efficiency, maintenance efficiency, and spaceframe life span. These starships were also had the most advanced support and tactical systems of the time. In 2245, after successful performance trials by the prototype, the first production starship, USS Enterprise (NCC-1701), was launched. This soon-to-be legendary starship was followed by eleven more who, in all, recorded more first contacts and scientific endevors and discoveries than any other class of starships in Federation history up to that time. A major system upgrade program for the Constitution-class began around 2255. This included the installation of a new deflector shield system, replacement of laser cannons with phaser banks, and installation of a new matter/antimatter projectile known as the photon torpedo. Another minor upgrade program, dealing with interior and control panel design, plus some equipment and minor system replacement, began around 2266. In 2270, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the of the launch of the USS Constitution, a major systems swapout and upgrading program was initiated for all existing Constitution-class vessels. This huge refitting operation replaced every system on board the starship; modernized interior design, control panel design, and equipment; and installed the faster, more efficient, advanced fourth-generation warp propulsion system. The first starship to undergo this refitting was the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701). In the early 2280s, the Transwarp Development Project was initiated in the hope of producing a propulsion system that could surpass the primary warp field efficiency barrier. New classes of starships, such the Excelsior-Class, were designed and built under this program using the latest innovations in warp dynamics. These vessels were intended to replace the aging Constitution- Class vessels as the flagships of the Federation's exploration fleet. In anticipation of this, several Constitution-class starships (such as the USS Enterprise) were decommissioned or reassigned to cadet training duty beginning in 2284. Later, however, technical and political difficulties arising from the Transwarp Development Project delayed the construction of more of the Excelsior-class vessels; therefore, the Constitution-class starships were given a "second-wind." A few of the older Constitution-class vessels were recommissioned and refitted in the late 2280s and early 2290s. Refits included a redesigned bridge module, new interior and control panel designs, and major system and equipment upgrading. Unfortunately, some technical problems with the new systems were reported in the beginning, resulting in a systemwide technological failure of the newly-launched USS Enterprise (NCC- 1701-A) in 2287. By the mid 2290s the Constitution-class starships were still the primary deep-space exploration vessels of Starfleet. However, as the performance of the failed transwarp experimental vessel USS Excelsior (an otherwise successful spaceframe now refitted with standard, but uprated, warp engines) and the Constellation-class starships continued to impress Starfleet Command, the Constitution-class starships began to be phased out over the next decade.
