A high pitched hum, just at the outer edge of consciousness, tickled Garland’s ear. He looked around. Everyone looked preoccupied, parsing the unusual sound. Saratov seemed calm, alert. Yang spoke urgently into his quicklink. Abruptly, a burst of sound split the air, and the ship surged beneath them, throwing Garland to the floor.
